FIVE MONTHS IN PERU

Some countries we have been to have reminded us of other countries, but the same cannot be said for Peru. Although we had done a certain amount of requisite research before we came here we were still surprised by what we encountered. Good surprises. Bad surprises. I will leave it at that for now. This is the first of a series of posts in this intriguing country that we spent five months in.

This is a country with great variety. I doubt that we did it justice, even though we spent five months here, two grand loops, first in the south then the north.

Here are some photos from our trek here.

Ocongate, Peru. Photo taken from our jostling taxi.

Carhuaz locals.

Oyon, edge of a town on the edge of the world. Oyon was a charming, friendly town.

This photo came out surprisingly well for being taken from another jostling taxi. Many of these stretches in the Andes could only be traversed by taxi or, occasionally, crowded vans.

From Jauja to Pampas. “We don’t need no stinkin hedgerows”. Peru is like China in their extending their cultivations to the very edges, making it hard for wildlife to survive.

Lake Titicaca and Puno. The sun was very intense here.
The moonscape outside of Churin in the Andes.
